Today, read through the passage for the week again Psalm 119:9-16 in the Message version. Then read through Nan Merrill's interpretation of the same passage below. Choose one and pray from it today OR write your own poem/prayer inspired by this passage.
How can a young person live a clean life?
By carefully reading the map of your Word.
I’m single-minded in pursuit of you;
don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.
I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart
so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.
Be blessed, God;
train me in your ways of wise living.
I’ll transfer to my lips
all the counsel that comes from your mouth;
I delight far more in what you tell me about living
than in gathering a pile of riches.
I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you,
I attentively watch how you’ve done it.
I relish everything you’ve told me of life,
I won’t forget a word of it. (MSG version)
"How can the young keep to the
straight path? Only
by learning to listen to the
still Voice within.
With all my heart I seek You;
let me not wander from
your teachings!
You Word is imprinted upon my heart,
that I may walk in your Light.
Blessed are You, O Counselor;
guide me in all that I do,
That with my lips I may bear
witness to the truth of your Way.
With you Word in my heart,
I delight more than with the
world's riches.
I listen in the Silence,
awaiting the clarity of your
counsel.
May I become a living fountain of joy
and give thanks for your
bountiful blessings!
Nan Merrrill - Psalms for Praying
Psalm 119 is not my favorite, but meditating on it this way has helped me to see it in a different light. I do delight in God’s teachings—and they are the pathway of Life.
